Stepless Journey - 30 Years of the Fendt Vario Transmission
It’s 30 years since the Fendt Favorit 926 Vario, the world’s first mass produced tractor, equipped with a stepless constantly variable transmission, began rolling off the German manufacturer’s Marktoberdorf production line. In the first of a two-part feature published in the March edition of Farm Machinery Journal, I take a look into the history and development of the Vario box and some of the most significant Fendt tractors it’s resided in. These include the original 926, the advanced 700 series, first launched in August 1998, and the highly regarded 800 Vario TMS models that went into production in 2006.
